Want to know how quickly star fruit starts bearing and the basic care it needs through the year.

Grafted star fruit usually starts bearing within about 2 to 3 years and, in warm climates, can fruit in more than one flush a year. Care is fairly simple, it needs regular irrigation (it does not like drought or waterlogging), protection from frost and strong winds, light pruning to shape the tree and improve airflow, and balanced nutrition based on soil testing. The main ongoing task is pest management, especially fruit fly, through sanitation, traps and, on small plantings, bagging the fruit. Grafted sweet varieties give better, more saleable fruit than seedlings. For any spray, use labelled products and follow the PHI. Confirm the recommended variety, spacing and care schedule for your coastal conditions with your KVK or horticulture department.
Mine started fruiting in about the third year and now gives a couple of flushes a year in our warm coast. Fruit fly is the main thing to stay on top of.
