Considering passion fruit and want to know if my climate suits it and whether to grow the purple or yellow type.

Passion fruit grows well in warm, frost-free, humid climates with good rainfall or irrigation, which is why the north-east (Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland), parts of the Western Ghats and other warm regions suit it. There are two main types, the purple passion fruit, which prefers cooler mid-elevations, and the yellow type, which tolerates warmer lowland conditions and is often more vigorous, plus hybrids. It is a fast vine that needs a strong trellis and can start fruiting within the first year or so, which is quicker than most fruit crops. It does need cross-pollination, often helped by carpenter bees or hand pollination, for good fruit set. Choose the type that matches your elevation and climate. Confirm the recommended type and variety for Aizawl with your KVK or the state horticulture department.
In our hills the purple type does well. It fruits quite fast compared to other crops, but make a solid trellis, the vines get heavy.
Make a strong trellis, the vines get very heavy. Ours started fruiting fast which I liked.
Pick the type for your elevation, the purple does better up here, the yellow lower down.
