Internal worms cause weakness, rough coat, poor growth and lower milk, while ticks spread serious blood parasite diseases, so both need regular control. Deworming is usually done periodically, often a few times a year and especially in calves and around the monsoon, but the exact dewormer and timing should be decided by your veterinarian based on the worm type and the animal. For ticks, keep the shed clean and dry, remove ticks, and use approved acaricides only as advised by a vet, since wrong chemicals or doses are unsafe for the animal and for the milk. Avoid using the same dewormer repeatedly so resistance does not build up. A dung sample test at a veterinary centre can confirm worm load before you treat.

Keeping the shed dry and cleaning regularly cut down ticks a lot for me. I deworm my calves on the vet's advice and they grow much better than before.

Ticks were hiding in the cracks of my old shed walls and in the corners, not just on the animals. Filling the cracks and cleaning those spots made the tick problem far easier to control alongside treating the animals. The blood parasite diseases ticks carry can kill, so do not ignore them.

Get a dung test done before you deworm, my vet suggested it and it told us exactly what worms my animals had. Using the right medicine instead of guessing worked much better, and rotating the dewormer as he advised stops the worms from becoming hard to kill.
