Drip design depends on your row spacing and soil, so take it as a guide and confirm with a designer. For cotton on wide rows, farmers often run one lateral per row, or use a paired row planting so one lateral serves two crop rows to cut pipe cost. Emitter spacing is commonly around 30 to 50 cm with emitter discharge of about 2 to 4 litres per hour, chosen so the wetted patches join into a continuous wet strip; sandy soil needs closer emitters because water moves down fast, while clay soil spreads water sideways so emitters can be wider. Inline drip lines are usual for row crops. Always match lateral and emitter spacing to your soil type, plant spacing, and water source, and get a layout from a certified micro irrigation agency or your KVK before buying.
We went with paired row planting and one lateral in the middle of each pair on our cotton. It cut the pipe cost a lot compared to one lateral per row. The two close rows share the wet strip nicely. Plan the planting and the drip together from the start, not after sowing.
On our sandy soil the wider 50 cm emitter spacing left dry gaps between plants. We had to go closer, around 30 cm, so the wet patches joined into a strip. So really get the design done for your own soil, because copying a neighbour on different soil did not work for us.
Whatever spacing you choose, put a good filter at the head and flush the lateral ends regularly. Cotton is a long crop and clogged emitters near the end of the line will quietly starve those plants. We open the end caps and flush every week and the field stays even.
