Soil Health Card high phosphorus reading, whether to reduce or skip DAP, residual P.
4 जवाब
If your card rates available phosphorus as 'high', you can usually cut back DAP or SSP sharply or skip a basal P dose for one season, because soils hold residual phosphorus from past applications and crops draw on it. Many farmers keep applying full DAP out of habit and waste money while P builds up and even locks zinc. The safer move is to apply a small maintenance dose or none, meet your nitrogen need through urea, and re-test after the season. Do keep potash and any deficient micronutrient as advised. Confirm against your Soil Health Card and local KVK before skipping P, and do not over apply.
My P was high for years from heavy DAP use. I dropped to half a bag and the wheat yield did not fall at all. Saved real money.
One thing to watch when you skip DAP is that you still need nitrogen, which DAP was quietly giving you. I forgot that the first year and my crop looked hungry early. Now I just add a little extra urea as basal to make up the nitrogen and skip the phosphorus.
High phosphorus year after year can lock up your zinc, so even while skipping DAP do get your zinc checked. In my field the wheat had patchy white striping which turned out to be zinc, made worse by all the old DAP. A small zinc sulphate dose sorted it.
