The threshold or guaranteed yield is the benchmark your actual yield is compared against, and it is built from past average yields, so a string of good years can push it up. It is generally calculated from the average yield of the insurance unit over a number of recent past years, multiplied by an indemnity level that reflects the risk category of the area, such as a higher percentage for low-risk areas and lower for high-risk ones. A claim arises only when the measured actual yield falls below this threshold, and the payout is proportional to the shortfall against the sum insured. It can feel high if your recent past years were good, because that raises the average, or if the indemnity level for your area is on the higher side. The number of base years and the indemnity level are set by the state-level committee and can change. Ask your agriculture office for the threshold yield notified for your crop and unit so you know the bar before sowing.

Hamare yahan threshold yield isliye zyada lag raha tha kyunki pichhle kuch saal acche the, isse average upar chala gaya. Maine agriculture office se apne unit ka threshold aur actual yield maanga aur samjha. Boni se pehle yeh number jaan lo.

A practical step was to attend the crop cutting and note the actual yield, then compare it with the threshold the office gave me. If your area is marked low risk the indemnity level is higher, which raises the bar. Ask your agriculture office for the notified threshold for your crop.

If the average uses too few base years a single good year can push the threshold up unfairly. Our farmer group raised this with the state committee that fixes the base years and indemnity level. Together you have a better chance of being heard than alone.

Yeh samajhna zaroori hai ki threshold tumhare apne khet ka nahi, poore unit ke pichhle average ka hota hai, isliye akele ladne se kuch nahi hoga. Agar lagta hai ki base years me koi galti hai ya area ka risk category galat laga hai, to gaon ke kisaan milkar agriculture office aur state committee ko likho. Boni se pehle apne unit ka notified threshold office se le lo taaki pata rahe bar kahan hai.
