Agent offered me weather based insurance for my fruit crop instead of normal crop insurance. I do not understand the difference.

The two schemes pay on different triggers. Normal PMFBY is yield-based: it compares the actual measured yield of your insurance unit against a threshold yield, and pays if the harvest falls short, so it captures the combined effect of all causes. Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance pays on a weather index instead: a nearby reference weather station records rainfall, temperature, humidity or wind, and if the reading crosses pre-set limits, like too little rain in a defined window or too many hot days, the claim is paid automatically without harvesting any crop. Weather insurance settles faster and suits horticulture and crops sensitive to specific weather, but it carries basis risk, meaning your field can suffer while the station reading does not cross the trigger, so you get nothing. Yield insurance avoids that mismatch but takes longer because it waits for crop cutting results. Check which scheme is notified for your crop and area and confirm the triggers with the insurance company.
Agent ne mujhe fruit crop ke liye weather based insurance diya tha. Ek saal kam baarish hui par station ne trigger cross nahi kiya to claim nahi mila, jabki mera khet sookha tha. Yeh basis risk samajh kar hi lena.
The good side of weather insurance was speed, my claim came fast the year rainfall crossed the trigger, no waiting for crop cutting. But check how far the reference weather station is from your field, the closer the better. Confirm which scheme is notified for your crop.
For my orchard the weather index suited me because yield based cutting is hard on fruit crops. Ask the insurer exactly which weather readings and limits trigger a payout, and during which dates, so you know what is covered. The triggers are pre set, confirm them before buying.
