pmfby premium rate kharif rabi, 2 percent 1.5 percent 5 percent, farmer share crop insurance

Under PMFBY the farmer pays only a fixed share of the premium and the government subsidises the rest. The farmer share is capped at 2 percent of the sum insured for kharif food and oilseed crops, 1.5 percent for rabi food and oilseed crops, and 5 percent for commercial and horticultural crops. The actual amount you pay depends on the sum insured per hectare for your crop in your area, so a higher value crop costs more in rupees even at the same percentage. The remaining premium is shared by the central and state governments. Check the exact sum insured and your payable amount for your crop and district on the PMFBY portal before the enrolment deadline.
Ek baat dhyaan rakho, percentage to fix hai par rupaye me kitna lagega wo sum insured pe depend karta hai. Meri cotton commercial crop thi to 5 percent laga aur amount zyada bana, jabki padosi ki wheat pe 1.5 percent laga. Apne crop aur district ka sum insured portal pe dekh lo.
A point that confused me at first: the farmer share percentage is on the sum insured, not on the value of your harvest. So even if your crop value seems high, the premium is fixed on the official sum insured per hectare for your crop and district. Ask the bank or CSC to show you that sum insured figure first, then the rupee premium makes sense.
When I enrolled I only looked at the percentage and got a shock at the actual rupee premium for my horticulture crop because the sum insured per hectare was high. Calculate your payable amount before the deadline so there is no surprise. The bank or CSC can show you the figure for your crop and area.
If you are not sure which category your crop falls in, ask at the agriculture office rather than guessing, because food, oilseed and commercial or horticultural crops have different farmer shares. Some borderline crops surprised me. Confirming first avoids paying the wrong premium or missing the deadline while you sort it out.
