Cut roses are priced mainly by stem length, bud size, straightness and freshness, so grade them into length classes and keep only clean, straight stems with tight unblemished buds in each grade. Harvest at the correct tight bud stage in the cool morning, put stems straight into clean water, and move them to a cool place quickly since heat opens buds and shortens vase life. Remove lower thorns and leaves as your market wants, bundle by grade, and pack in sleeves and boxes that protect the buds from rubbing. Avoid mixing grades, since one batch standard sets the price. Maintaining a cool chain from harvest to market cuts rejection a lot. Confirm the grade standards your auction or buyer uses and adjust to them.

Cutting in the cool early morning and putting the stems straight into clean water made my buds last and reach the market fresh. When I cut in the day heat the buds opened on the way and got rejected. The cool chain matters from the first minute.

Do not mix grades in one bunch, the buyer rates the whole bunch by the worst stem in it. Sorting strictly by length and keeping only clean straight stems per grade lifted my average rate. Mixing pulled my good stems down.

Sleeve the buds so they do not rub in the box, the bruised petals were getting me rejections. Proper sleeves and a box that holds the stems still made a clear difference in how many were accepted at the market.
