How to control aphids and powdery mildew in fennel (saunf) crop?

Curling tops with clustered insects are aphids and the white powdery coating is powdery mildew, both common in fennel in cool dry to humid spells. Aphids suck sap and also leave sticky honeydew that brings sooty mould, while powdery mildew spreads in cloudy mild weather. Avoid excess nitrogen which makes soft growth that aphids love, and keep good spacing for air flow. Yellow sticky traps and natural enemies help keep aphids down early. For sprays against aphids and mildew, the product, dose, interval and pre harvest interval must follow the label and your KVK advice, since fennel is a seed and food spice and residues matter. Do not spray near harvest.

Yellow sticky traps put out early caught a lot of the aphids before they built up on my saunf. Watching the crop in the cool cloudy spells and acting early worked better than waiting for the whole field to get covered.

Remember saunf is a food spice, so do not spray close to harvest, the residue matters and buyers check now. I confirm the safe interval with the KVK before any spray. Spraying right before cutting can get a lot rejected.
