Litchi fruit borer stink bug control monitoring spray timing pre-harvest interval Bihar

Litchi fruit borer caterpillars bore near the stalk end and inside the fruit, while the litchi stink bug feeds on tender shoots and panicles, and both cut quality and yield. Manage them with orchard sanitation, removal of affected fruit and shoots, and well-timed sprays based on monitoring rather than calendar spraying. The critical period is around fruit development, and any insecticide must be labelled for litchi and applied before the pre-harvest interval so harvested fruit is residue-safe, which matters for both fresh market and any export. Avoid spraying during peak bee activity at flowering. For the exact spray windows and approved products, confirm with the litchi research centre or your local KVK.

Timing the spray to the fruit development stage based on watching the orchard, not the calendar, worked far better for us in East Champaran. We monitor for the early stink bug nymphs on the tender shoots and act when we actually see them building up. Calendar spraying wasted chemical and still missed the real pest peak.

The pre-harvest interval is something I urge everyone to respect, because litchi is eaten fresh and a late spray leaves residue on the fruit. We plan the last spray well before picking and never spray close to harvest just because we see a few borers. Sanitation of the dropped and bored fruit through the season keeps the pressure low so we do not need that late spray.
