Why is pink bollworm surviving in my BG II cotton even after spraying (kapas)?

I sprayed insecticide twice but rosette flowers and double seed bolls are still showing pink bollworm in Adilabad. Why are sprays not working?

Pink bollworm larvae feed inside the boll, so most sprays miss them once they have bored in, which is why timing matters more than spray count. Start monitoring with pheromone traps at 8 to 10 per acre from square formation and act when you catch 8 or more moths per trap on consecutive nights. Open a few green bolls weekly to check for larvae and pink rosette flowers, and remove and destroy affected flowers and bolls. Avoid extending the crop with late irrigation, since a long season builds up the pest, and end the crop by clearing stalks early. For chemical choice and dose follow the label and PHI and ask your local KVK or the state agriculture department for the current recommended rotation to avoid resistance.

Same problem near Boath last year. Once I started weekly boll opening and pulled out rosette flowers by hand, the damage dropped a lot. Spraying alone never worked for me.

In our village near Yavatmal we set up the pheromone traps from the very start of squaring and emptied them every few days. The early warning let us act before the larvae got inside, which sprays cannot reach. Counting the moths honestly instead of guessing made the spray decision much better.

One thing many of us miss is the leftover heaps of last year's kapas stored near the house and the unploughed stalks, which carry the pest into the new crop. After I shredded the stalks right after the last picking and stopped chasing late bolls, the pressure the next season was clearly lower. Doing it across a few neighbouring farms together helped more than one farm alone.

Do not mix and overuse insecticides hoping a stronger cocktail will work, because that is exactly how the pest became hard to kill. I went back to honest pheromone trap counts and only sprayed on the threshold, and I rotated the groups as the KVK advised. The early monitoring did far more than any heavy spray.

Picking the rosette flowers and the damaged bolls and destroying them away from the field, not throwing them on the bund, made a difference in our patch. If you drop them at the edge the larvae just crawl back. Burning or burying the infested material breaks the cycle a little more each week.
