How do I control termites organically in field and orchard?

Start with the source, locate and dig out and destroy the queen in nearby termite mounds, because as long as the queen lives the colony rebuilds. Use undecomposed organic matter carefully, fresh straw and raw FYM actually attract termites, so apply only well rotted manure. Neem cake worked into the soil repels termites and adds nutrients, and the insect killing fungus Metarhizium anisopliae applied to the soil with FYM infects and kills termites over time. Keep the field adequately moist where possible, since termites attack stressed dry crops more, and remove old stumps, dry wood and crop residue that feed them. For orchards, protect young plants and apply Metarhizium and neem cake around the root zone.
