How do I control thrips organically in chilli and onion?

Thrips are tiny, hide deep in flowers and growing tips, and breed fast, so organic control needs an early and combined approach rather than one spray. Start monitoring with blue sticky traps as soon as the crop is young, because thrips are attracted to blue, and put up several per acre to catch winged adults and warn you early. Spray neem oil based products, which deter feeding and egg laying, repeated every week, covering the growing points and flower zone where thrips sit. In humid conditions the insect killing fungi Beauveria bassiana and Verticillium lecanii give useful control of thrips. Keep the field weed free since weeds host thrips, avoid excess nitrogen, and use overhead or sprinkler irrigation where suitable since thrips dislike wet leaves. Be honest, thrips in chilli also spread leaf curl virus, and once virus is in a plant no spray cures it, so early prevention and removing badly infected plants matter most.
