What is Pseudomonas fluorescens and how do I use it?

Pseudomonas fluorescens is a beneficial bacterium used as a biocontrol agent against several fungal and some bacterial diseases, and it can also help plant growth. Unlike Trichoderma, which is mainly for the soil, Pseudomonas can be used both as a seed and soil treatment and as a foliar spray, so it is handy for leaf diseases like blights and some bacterial leaf spots as well as root problems. Typical uses are seed treatment at the label dose per kg of seed, soil application mixed with FYM like Trichoderma, and a foliar spray at the rate on the pack. It works preventively and as a protective layer, so start early and repeat, do not expect it to cure a disease that has already spread badly. As with all microbial products, do not tank mix it with chemical bactericides or fungicides that would kill it, store it cool and use before the expiry date because it contains living cells. Many farmers use Pseudomonas and Trichoderma together as a combined preventive package. Ask your KVK which strain and dose suit your crop.
