Water stands in patches and my field irrigates unevenly, how do I level it?

Water pooling in low patches while high spots stay dry is a sign your field is not level, so the same irrigation gives some plants too much and others too little. The lasting fix is land leveling. A laser land leveller does this far better than the old method and gives a near flat surface so water spreads evenly, which saves water, gives even germination, and stops the waterlogged patches that rot roots. Many farmers hire a laser leveller on rent for a few hours per acre rather than buy one, and some custom hiring centres and FPOs offer it. If you cannot level right away, you can manage by making smaller basins or shorter check strips so each patch gets a more even depth, and by adding small bunds to hold water on the high side. For the cost and availability of laser leveling in your area, ask your custom hiring centre, FPO, or agriculture department, and confirm whether any subsidy applies.
