Seed treatment protects against seed and soil-borne diseases and pests and improves germination, and it is one of the cheapest yield insurances. Follow the order: fungicide or insecticide first, then bio-agent, then bio-fertiliser (inoculant) last, allowing each to dry before the next. A common practice is treating with a recommended fungicide (such as carbendazim or thiram) or a biocontrol agent like Trichoderma, followed by Rhizobium/PSB culture for pulses and legumes. Use the dose printed on the product (often grams per kg of seed), coat evenly in shade, dry, and sow the same day. Do not eat or feed treated seed and wear gloves. Confirm products and doses with your KVK for your crop.

Trichoderma seed treatment plus soil application cut my chickpea wilt a lot. Just remember bio-fertiliser goes on last after the chemical dries.

I treat seed in a wide plastic basin and roll it gently so every seed gets coated evenly, then spread it on a sheet in the shade to dry. Heaping wet treated seed in a corner leaves some seeds uncoated.

Do not mix a chemical fungicide and Trichoderma together at the same time; the chemical can kill the bio-agent. Let the fungicide dry first, or use only the bio route for that crop. Check with your KVK which combinations are safe.

Gloves are not optional. I skipped them once and got skin irritation from the fungicide. Now I keep a dedicated pair just for seed treatment and wash up after, and never feed leftover treated seed to animals.
