Pink bollworm in my cotton bolls, what to do now?

Live pink larvae inside green bolls with rosetted flowers is classic pink bollworm, so act on monitoring not panic. Hang pheromone traps at 8 to 10 per acre and count male moths each morning. Open 20 green bolls weekly and if you find live larvae in more than 10 of them, or moth catch crosses about 8 per trap, take action. Pick and destroy rosetted flowers and damaged bolls instead of leaving them in the field. On threshold, spray a recommended insecticide and rotate chemical groups across sprays so resistance does not build, for example a profenofos based spray one round and a diamide the next. The strongest tools cost nothing, do timely picking, end the crop and uproot stalks by January to February, and avoid late irrigation that stretches the crop.
