I am interested in ornamental fish breeding and also vannamei shrimp. Does PMMSY support these and what kind of help can I expect?

Yes, PMMSY covers a wide range of activities beyond ordinary pond fish, and ornamental fish units as well as brackish water and shrimp aquaculture are eligible beneficiary-oriented activities in many state action plans. For ornamental fish, support can cover backyard or medium rearing and breeding units along with related infrastructure. For shrimp such as vannamei, PMMSY supports new pond construction and inputs for brackish water aquaculture, but shrimp farming also requires registration with the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) for coastal areas, which is a separate legal requirement you must complete. As with other PMMSY activities the subsidy is a percentage of a fixed unit cost, typically a higher slab for SC, ST and women and a lower slab for the general category, released after the unit is set up and verified. The exact activities offered, the unit costs and the slabs are decided in your state's annual action plan and change periodically, so confirm with your District Fisheries Officer which of ornamental, shrimp and allied activities are open in your state this year and what the current slab and ceiling are. For shrimp specifically, also check the CAA registration process early because you cannot operate a coastal shrimp farm without it.
Vannamei ke liye CAA registration zaroori hai, ye main bhool gaya tha pehle. Pehle wahi kara lo phir PMMSY ka kaam aasan rehta hai.
