Start to finish, how does the whole SMAM machinery subsidy process actually work?

Here is the full journey end to end. Step 1, register: go to your state machinery portal or the national agrimachinery.nic.in, register as a farmer with Aadhaar and an Aadhaar-linked mobile, and verify by OTP. Step 2, eligibility and slab: decide your category, since general farmers get roughly 40 to 50 percent and SC, ST, women and small or marginal farmers usually get a higher slab. Step 3, apply in the window: SMAM is not open all year, so apply as soon as the window opens, pick the machine, fill land and category details, and upload Aadhaar, land record, bank passbook, photo and caste certificate if claiming the higher slab. Step 4, selection: states pick beneficiaries by computerised lottery or first-come, often with separate quotas for priority categories, and you get a token or approval. Step 5, purchase: only after selection, buy the approved model from an empanelled dealer within the time limit, never before approval. Step 6, upload and inspection: upload the invoice and machine serial number, and a field officer physically inspects the machine. Step 7, DBT: subsidy is calculated on the approved cost ceiling, not the dealer price, and is paid by DBT to your Aadhaar-seeded account, often within a few weeks to a couple of months of inspection. The two things that derail people most are buying before approval and a name mismatch across Aadhaar, bank and land record, so fix those first. Confirm the exact slab, window, approved cost and dealer rules for your machine on your state agriculture or agrimachinery portal.

This matches what I went through for a tractor in MP. Lottery, then token, then buy from the listed dealer, then inspection, then money. Do not skip steps or buy early.

The approved cost ceiling point is real. My dealer price was higher than the approved cost, so the subsidy was on the lower approved figure. Plan your budget for that gap.

I qualified as a small farmer and got the higher slab. The land record proved the holding size, no extra certificate needed for that, only the caste certificate is for SC or ST.

Apply on day one of the window. In our first-come state the slots filled within days. Keeping all documents ready in advance saved me.

DBT got delayed for me because my bank account was not seeded with Aadhaar. Got it seeded, followed up at the block office, and it came through.

For groups, the same flow applies but with a project proposal. Our FPO set up a CHC this way and the grant came to the group account after inspection.
