Should I wait for PM-KUSUM Component C feeder solarisation or apply for my own solar pump now?

How a grid pump farmer can weigh waiting for DISCOM feeder solarisation against applying for an individual solar pump now.

This depends on what your DISCOM is actually planning, so the first move is to find out their Component C route in your area rather than guessing. If your DISCOM is rolling out feeder level solarisation, where they solarise the whole agriculture feeder, you may get more reliable daytime supply without spending on your own panels, and in that case waiting can make sense, but only if the rollout is real and near, since these programmes take time. If feeder solarisation is not planned for your feeder anytime soon, waiting just means continuing with unreliable grid supply, and applying for an individual solar pump now gives you your own daytime power and possibly export income sooner. The trade offs are: feeder solarisation costs you nothing and is managed by the DISCOM but is on their timeline and gives you no panels of your own, whereas an individual pump needs your farmer share now but puts the asset and any export income in your hands. There is also the limited slot issue, an individual application competes for the year's quota, so delaying could push you to a later cycle. The sensible step is to ask your DISCOM whether and when your feeder is slated for solarisation, then decide: if it is imminent, wait, if it is uncertain or far off, apply individually. Confirm both the feeder plan and the current individual Component C window with your DISCOM and nodal agency before choosing.

I asked the DISCOM and they had no feeder plan for my area for years, so I applied for my own pump rather than waiting endlessly. Find out their actual plan before deciding to wait.

Remember the slots are limited each year. Waiting for a feeder plan that may not come could cost you a cycle. Weigh that.
