Precision farming means using data and technology to apply the right input, in the right amount, at the right place and time, instead of treating the whole field uniformly. In practice it ranges from simple and affordable to advanced and costly. The low-cost entry includes soil testing for site-specific fertiliser, drip and fertigation for precise water and nutrient delivery, and using weather and advisory apps for decisions, all of which a regular farmer can adopt for modest spend. The higher end includes soil and weather sensors, GPS-guided equipment, drones for spraying and monitoring, and variable-rate application, which need significant investment and are mostly justified on larger holdings. So there is no single cost, it depends on how far you go. The honest point is that the basics, soil testing, drip, and good advisory, give most of the benefit for least money, while the high-tech gear suits bigger or high-value operations. Start with the affordable practices that improve input efficiency, and add technology only where it clearly pays. Your KVK and state agriculture department can guide what suits your farm and any subsidy on drip or equipment.

For me precision farming started with just a soil test and drip with fertigation. That alone cut my fertiliser waste a lot. You do not need drones to begin.

The fancy sensors and GPS gear made sense only when I scaled up. On a small plot the basics gave most of the gain. Do not overspend on tech too early.
