Profitability and market for trout.

Trout fetches a high market price as a premium fish, especially through hotels, restaurants, tourist areas and direct sale in hill stations, so it can be profitable where you have suitable cold water and a good market. The catches are that high protein feed is costly, suitable cold water sites are limited, and your market must be reliable, since trout is a niche product and demand is concentrated in tourism and premium buyers. In hill regions with tourist demand it can pay well, but a weak season or distant market hurts. Treat profit figures as a range to verify locally. Before investing, confirm your cold water site, line up buyers such as hotels and tourist outlets, and get realistic cost and price ranges from your state Fisheries department and existing trout farmers.
Tourists and hotels here pay a good price for fresh trout, which is what makes it worthwhile. The feed is expensive though, so without that premium market the maths would not work.
Without the cold flowing water and a tourist or hotel market nearby, do not attempt trout. The premium price is the whole reason it works here in the hills. Check both before you spend.
