Understanding the loan percentage, margin, interest and charges on a warehouse receipt loan.

When you pledge an e-NWR, the bank lends only a part of the produce value and keeps a margin aside as a cushion against price falls; the exact percentage and margin vary by bank, crop and price volatility, so confirm it before storing. Your total cost is the loan interest plus the warehouse storage charges, and sometimes valuation or insurance charges, so add all of these when you judge whether holding is worth it. The deal only makes sense if the price you expect later, minus storage rent, interest and charges, still beats what you would get by selling now. Banks usually value the produce using a reference price and may revalue if prices drop sharply, and could ask you to repay part of the loan if the value falls below their margin. Keep your KYC, e-NWR and account ready, and ask the bank for the lending percentage, interest rate, any interest subvention for short term post-harvest loans, and the revaluation rules in writing. Verify the current rates and the registered warehouse list with your bank and the WDRA portal.
Ask about the margin specifically. The bank did not lend the full value of my stock; they held a chunk back, which is fair but you should plan for it.
