Clogging is the number one killer of drip systems and it comes from three sources: physical (sand and silt), chemical (salts and deposits, often white scale from hard water), and biological (algae and slime). To prevent it, run the right filter for your water (screen or disc for cleaner water, sand or hydrocyclone if your borewell carries silt), clean the filter regularly, and flush the laterals by opening the end caps every week or two so accumulated muck is washed out. For chemical scale from hard or alkaline water, periodic acid treatment dissolves the deposits: a dilute acid is injected, left to act, then flushed, but do this carefully following the vendor or KVK instruction because acid is hazardous. For algae and slime, a chlorine treatment at intervals keeps the lines clean, again following safe doses. Other habits that help: keep the source water as clean as you can, do not let drippers sit dry and dirty between crops, and check for chewed or blocked drippers and replace them. If you see uneven wetting or weak flow at the far end, that is your early warning to flush and clean. For the correct acid and chlorine doses and frequency for your water quality, follow your vendor or KVK; do not guess with concentrated chemicals.
Weekly flushing of the lateral ends takes ten minutes and saved my system. The farmers who never open the end caps are the ones with blocked drippers.
My hard water left white scale. Acid treatment as the vendor showed cleared it, but wear gloves and never pour acid into water carelessly.
Clean the filter often. I check mine every few days in muddy water season. A choked filter starves the whole field.
