2WD vs 4WD tractor for buying, which gives better value?

It depends on your land and work, not just the price tag. 4WD costs more upfront and a bit more to maintain, but it gives better traction and pulling power, which pays off in wet fields, hilly or sloping land, heavy tillage, loader work, and when working in soft or muddy conditions where a 2WD slips. 2WD is cheaper to buy and maintain and is fine for level fields, lighter work, mainly haulage and dry conditions, and it often has good resale demand in plains. From a value angle, if you regularly work slopes, wet soil or do heavy pulling, the 4WD usually earns back its extra cost in less slip, less stress and more usable days.
