Which tractor HP should I buy for my farm size?

Match HP to your land size and your heaviest job, not to the showroom display. As a rough guide many farmers find that up to about 5 acres a 20 to 30 HP tractor works, 5 to 15 acres suits roughly 35 to 45 HP, and above 15 to 20 acres or if you plan a rotavator, harvester or trolley work you look at 50 HP and above. Two more things matter as much as acreage: your soil and your implements. Heavy black soil and deep tillage need more power than light loam for the same acreage, and every implement has a recommended HP range printed on it, so list the implements you will actually run and pick a tractor that covers the most demanding one. If you do custom hiring or heavy trolley haulage, size up one class. Confirm the exact HP and implement match with the dealer for your soil before booking.
