Shifting to higher income farming should be gradual, not a sudden jump, because higher value crops bring higher cost, more labour and more market risk that you should learn to handle on a small scale first. Begin by converting a small portion of your land, say a quarter or half acre, to a higher value crop like select vegetables, spices, or a fruit plus intercrop, while keeping the rest in your usual reliable crops for income safety. Use that small plot to learn the crop's needs, water and pest management, and most importantly its market and buyers, before expanding. As you gain confidence and find steady buyers, slowly increase the high value area and reduce the low return area. Build the supporting pieces alongside, such as drip irrigation, soil improvement, storage, and buyer or cooperative links, because high value farming depends on these. Add long term assets like a fruit orchard or dairy that pay over years. Move step by step so a mistake on the new crop never threatens your whole income. Plan the transition with your KVK and explore subsidies for drip, polyhouse and horticulture as you scale up.

I shifted one acre at a time from ragi to vegetables and now horticulture. Doing it slowly meant my mistakes were small and I learned the market before betting big. Patience paid.

Drip and a good buyer link mattered as much as the crop for me. Build those first on the small plot, then expand. High value farming fails without the support around it.
