Hailstorm flattened my field but my neighbour two villages away was fine. Is this a localized calamity claim or the normal area claim?

Under PMFBY the localized calamity head covers losses to individual insured fields from specific named perils, mainly hailstorm, landslide, inundation, cloudburst and natural fire due to lightning. The key idea is that these hit scattered or individual plots rather than the whole notified area. So your hail-flattened field is exactly the kind of case the localized cover is meant for, and it is assessed on your individual field, not by the area average. What does not count here are widespread perils that affect the whole notified unit, like a general drought or a season-long deficit, because those are handled through the wider yield-based assessment for the area. Two other things to remember. You must report a localized loss quickly, generally within 72 hours, through the insurer toll-free number, the bank, the agriculture office or the crop insurance app. And the loss must be from one of the notified localized perils, not from pests or routine causes. Confirm the exact notified perils for your state on the PMFBY portal as the list can vary.
Bilkul, ola gir ke ek hi khet kharab ho to localized me jata hai. Maine 72 ghante ke andar toll free pe call karke intimate kiya tha tab survey hua.
Important point, keep the date and time of the hail noted and take photos with your field visible. The surveyor asked me when exactly it happened and photos helped my case in Rajasthan.
