What are the real benefits of an FPO for a one or two acre farmer?

Small farmers are exactly who FPOs are designed to help, because alone you have no bargaining power and an FPO gives you scale. Concrete benefits: cheaper inputs because the FPO buys seed, fertiliser and pesticide in bulk and passes the saving to you; better selling price because your small lot is pooled with hundreds of others to sell a truckload directly to a buyer instead of to a village trader; access to machinery through a custom hiring centre you could never buy alone; easier credit because the FPO can arrange tie ups and the credit guarantee makes banks lend; and access to schemes, training and quality grading that an individual rarely reaches. The benefit only comes if you actually use the FPO, buy your inputs there and sell your produce through it, and if the FPO is run honestly. Joining and then ignoring it gives you nothing.
