A phytosanitary certificate is an official document certifying that your plant produce is free from quarantine pests and diseases and meets the importing country's plant health requirements. It is issued by the Plant Quarantine department under the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage. You apply (the online system has been PQIS or the relevant plant quarantine portal), the consignment is inspected and sometimes a sample is tested or fumigation is required, and then the certificate is issued for that specific shipment. Apply in time, because inspection and any required treatment take days. Each importing country may have specific declarations it wants written on the certificate, so get the exact wording from your buyer in advance. Your CHA usually helps coordinate this. Confirm the current application process on the plant quarantine portal.

Apply early. The inspection takes time and if fumigation is needed it adds days. We always plan the phyto certificate before booking the container.

Get the exact declaration wording the importing country wants from your buyer. The quarantine office writes what you request, and a wrong wording can get the shipment held at the other end.
