Everyone says I need APEDA registration to export fruits and vegetables. What is the actual process and how much does it cost.

APEDA registration gives you the RCMC (Registration cum Membership Certificate) which is needed to export scheduled products like fruits, vegetables, cereals, meat and processed foods. The basic steps are: first get your IEC from DGFT, then apply online on the APEDA portal, fill the exporter details, upload your IEC, a bank certificate or cancelled cheque, and pay the registration fee online. Once approved you get the RCMC which is generally valid for a long period (it has been a one-time fee model, but rules change). I am not quoting an exact fee because APEDA revises it, so check the current amount on the official APEDA portal before paying. Beware of agents who charge large sums claiming they can fast-track it, the online process is straightforward and you can do it yourself.
I did my own APEDA registration online, it was not difficult. Keep your IEC and bank cheque copy scanned ready. Approval came in a few days.
An agent quoted me a high amount to do APEDA. I did it myself for the official fee only. Do it yourself if you can use the portal.
